An avid "grease monkey" who enjoys getting my hands dirty working on old vehicles. When I'm not tinkering with cars, you can find me excercising and running. I've been running a few marathons in the Pacific Northwest and love pushing myself to new limits. In addition to my design and fitness passions. I have been married to my wonderful husband since 2014. We inspire each other while traveling together with his band and pursuing our passion for art and music. Our art has taken us many places and will forever be in our lives.
Designing costumes for "The Pirates of Penzance" in 2017 was an enjoyable experience. One of the most challenging aspects involved creating period-appropriate outfits while incorporating modern design elements and techniques. This required extensive research into historical fashion trends, as well as experimentation with various construction methods to strike a balance between authenticity and functionality for the actors.Through this project, my skills as a designer have significantly improved, and I've gained a deeper appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into creating memorable theatre productions. Overall, it was an enriching experience working on custom costume designs.
For my graduate collection I was tasked with "Creating an original collection inspired by my life". I was personally inspired by the art and generousity of a stranger. My hushand and I found ourselves stranded in a rainstorm with no place to stay. We intended to camp but the conditions were threatening. Cordy Johnson, a Navajo, let us into his home and shared his story with us. Cordy loves music, art, and culture. During ourstay, I was struck by beautiful hard lines, bright colors, and precision of the art on his hand painted drumset. The Navajo Dine have made amazing art for centuries. Their woven blankets have heen sought after and commissioned. The amount of work that goes into one blanket is admirable. These textiles are made with hand dyed wool and spun into delicate yarn.
The Bond girls and the saucy suits of the 1960s. One of my favorite Bond scenes was Honey Ryder walking the beach in a belted white bikini yielding a knife with complete confidence in the feature film of the summer of 1962: Dr. No.
